Goalie Scott Clemmensen may not be available as a free-agent option after all.
Harvey Fialkov of the Florida Sun-Sentinel reports the Florida Panthers have already made Clemmensen an offer -- hoping to lock up the 34-year-old before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Fialkov:
"... (GM Dale) Tallon's offer to retain Clemmensen further validates what assistant GM Mike Santos told me last month that young goalie Jacob Markstrom is earmarked for one more season in the AHL ..."
Clemmensen was expected to draw a fair amount of interest as a reliable backup this summer. The Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Philadelphia Flyers could conceivably benefit from adding the veteran.
Presumably term would be the issue over money with Clemmensen. If both sides can't agree on the details, the Panthers will likely pursue another backup after July 1. | |
