Forward David Jones may not be an option for teams looking to add a potential top-six forward through free agency.
Poised to become an unrestricted free agent July 1, Jones could very well be re-signed by the Colorado Avalanche before then.
Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports preliminary negotiations have already taken place, and the Avs have indicated they want Jones back. Apparently such positive proclamations aren't common for the team.
And Jones' agent, Ross Gurney, said his client wants to remain in Colorado.
Now they just need to agree on a number/term. Jones earned $2.5 million on a one-year deal last season. Despite a lacklustre campaign in 2011-12, the 27-year-old winger is in an admirable negotiating position. An ultra-thin free agent market essentially guarantees a plump paycheck -- with the Avalanche or another club. | |
