If the general manager of the Phoenix Coyotes gets his way, goaltender Mike Smith will remain in the desert for a good long while. According to the Arizona Republic, GM Don Maloney will try to secure a long-term deal with Smith this offseason.

"This is a great spot for Mike, a great fit," Maloney said. "If you look at the last goalie we had who ran and chased the last dollar and maybe talk to him, he'd feel a little different, that things weren't that bad in the desert."
