NHL 2011-12 Fantasy Rankings: Top Left Wingers

Posted by Landon Ewaniuk on August 23, 2011 at 7:15 PM

1. Alex Ovechkin (WAS) - Ovechkin will once again be the king of fantasy hockey. If you have the fortune of getting the first overall pick, use it on this guy and don't look back. Projection: 115 points (56G, 59A)

2. Daniel Sedin (VAN) - The Sedin brothers are among the most consistent players in hockey. Daniel will continue to build on his NHL-leading season of a year ago. Projection: 105 points (40G, 65A)

3. Thomas Vanek (BUF) - The Buffalo Sabres have a new lease on life with a new owner dedicated to winning. Vanek will be at the forefront of that, setting a career-high. Projection: 88 points (47G, 41A)

4. Ilya Kovalchuk (NJD) - Kovalchuk will have no problem regaining form this season with Zach Parise back to help out. Projection: 87 points (42G, 45A)

5. Marian Gaborik (NYR) - Gabby was the luckiest player in hockey when the New York Rangers landed Brad Richards. Projection: 86 points (50G, 36A)

6. Alexander Semin (WAS) - Semin is a dude under a lot of heat of late. I think he will respond by playing the game to his abilities. Projection: 80 points (35G, 45A)

7. Dany Heatley (MIN) - A change of scenery will bump Heatley's production up in 2012. Projection: 75 points (35G, 40A)

8. Milan Lucic (BOS) - The Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup last season. This will not slow the progression of Lucic. He will reach an even geater level as an NHLer in 2012. Projection: 70 points (35G, 35A)

9. Loui Eriksson (DAL) - The Dallas Stars are going through tough times as an organization. However, they can still count on Eriksson to deliver a solid season. Projection 70 points (28G, 42A)

10. Alex Tanguay (CAL) - I expect virtually the same production out of Tanguay as we saw a season ago. Projection: 69 points (24G, 45A)

11. Alexandre Burrows (VAN) - Injuries held Burrows to 72 games in 2011. He managed 48 points. If healthy throughout 2012, I expect Burrows to get back on track. Projection: 68 points (33G, 35A)

12. Micheal Cammalleri (MTL) - Something's telling me to let the world know to expect bigger things out of Cammalleri in Montréal for 2012. Projection: 67 points (33G, 34A)

13. James van Riemsdyk (PHI) - The emergence of JVR made it possible for the Philadelphia Flyers to clean house this off-season. This kid, drafted second overall in 2007, will make himself a household name in 2012. Projection: 65 Points (28G, 37A)

14. Taylor Hall (EDM) - I'm very excited to see what Taylor Hall can accomplish as an Edmonton Oiler in 2012. I thought Hall was ready to breakout before his injury. Projection: 65 points (30G, 35A)

15. Ryan Clowe (SJS) - All the changes in San Jose should mean more time for Clowe. Projection: 64 points (25G, 39A)

16. Patrik Elias (NJD) - New Jersey's only All-Star from a season ago Elias will have another solid campaign. Projection: 63 points (20G, 43A)

17. Andrew Ladd (WPG) - The captain of the Winnipeg Jets should have a very exciting year. Projection: 62 points (30G, 32A)

18. Ville Leino (BUF) - Signed to big dollars as a free agent by the Buffalo Sabres this off-season, Leino is now expected to be a 60-point player in my books. Projection: 60 points (22G, 38A)

19. Dustin Penner (LAK) - If Penner can find his comfort zone with the Kings, expect big things. Projection: 57 points (27G, 30A)

20. James Neal (PIT) - Similar to Penner; if Neal finds his groove in the Penguins' system, he could put up the numbers he had in Dallas or better. Projection: 55 Points (30G, 25A)
