Blues Ken Hitchcock Is Coach of the Year

Posted by James Lindsay on June 23, 2012 at 7:00 PM

Of all of the NHL awards that were given out, the Jack Adams Award for Coach of Year was one of the best choices of the night.  It is always tempting to pick the Cup finalist coaches and certainly they are often the ones who deserve it, however it was clearly Ken Hitchcock who took over for the St. Louis Blues midstream that deserves this award.  Blues fans suffer a little from a lack of exposure complex.  I mean, we had the number two seed in the Western Conference and scored 109 points and yet we had ONE All-Star (Brian Elliot) and probably will never play in a Winter Classic.  Given that complex, the NHL Awards really showed that this complex may be all in our heads.  Hitchcock was the clear choice and he was not snubbed (the Blues were 45-15-11 under him), Jaroslav Halak and Elliot won the Jennings Trophy for best goalie tandem and Doug Armstrong was GM of the Year.  Lots of respect has been had this year for the Blues, so much so that I almost feel guilty suggesting that David Backes should have won the Selke for best defensive forward (he was the best, although the Bruins Patrice Bergeron is a very deserving winner as well).  Congratulations to all the Blues winners and I know they are not the type to settle for what they have accomplished.  Greater things still await this team, Go Blues!

It was either him or The Rangers coach who was winning that award.
