Kings beat Devils 2-1 in overtime, lead Stanley Cup final 2-0

Two consecutive 2-1 overtime victories have the Los Angeles Kings in the driver’s seat over the New Jersey Devils in the Stanley Cup final. The Los Angeles Kings have reeled off 10 straight road victories which stands as an NHL record consecutive in one playoff season.

Now, the organization will be back on home-ice at the Staples Center, two wins away from the franchise’s first Stanley Cup. The past Nine of the last eleven team to be in this scenario wound up winning hockey's Holy Grail.

In Game 1 Anze Kopitar was the overtime hero. Tonight, it was Jeff Carter's turn.

“After having a shot from the right side stopped by Devils goalie Martin Brodeur (30 saves), Carter collected the puck on the other side, came through the circle and whipped a shot from above the hash marks and through traffic that beat Brodeur on the blocker side for his fifth of the playoffs.” NHL.com

In the earlier rounds, I gave my Conn Smythe Trophy vote to Dustin Brown. I would like to officially change it to Jonathan Quick. The 25-year-old netminder from Connecticut was sensational yet again. (32 saves).

Drew Doughty netted a highlight - reel marker to open the scoring for Los Angeles. He went coast-to-coast through three New Jersey Devils wresting the puck past Brodeur on the stick-side.

The only goal to find the mesh for New Jersey was the perfect tip by Ryan Carter after a blast from the point. This was the first goal Jonathan Quick surrendered in the final stanza in seven games.

The Kings big guns are showing up in the most crucial moments in games.New Jersey has to find a way to do the same. Right now, life is too easy for Jonathan Quick.
