The Ottawa Net Has My Head Spinning

Posted by James Lindsay on March 7, 2012 at 5:15 PM

Ottawa Senators goalie Robin Lehner has posted a 3-2 record, 2.01 GAA, .935 Save Percentage and one shutout since he was called up from AHL Binghamton.  Given that record, what would you do if you were Ottawa?  I would say, "Great job!" and keep him up in the Canadian capital.  He has earned some more starts, right?

Nope, not correct.  On Monday, he was demoted back to the AHL and the Senators promoted former  St. Louis Blues prospect Ben Bishop.  Now, I like Bishop a lot and I think he is going to be good.  He stands a very tall 6'7 in net and was only traded by the Blues because they have locked in their goalie tandem of Jaro Halak and Brian Elliot for the near future.  So, no offense to Bishop, however Lehner seems to have done all he could.  Tough reward for a job well done.

In his first start against the Tampa By Lightning, Bishop let in three goals, but the Ottawa snipers were firing and they won 7-3.  I suppose we will see how he does, I just hope the Sens pick someone and stick with him.  Now I have to go cut Lehner on my teams and pick up Bishop.  I will be unhappy if I am doing this again in a week.
