Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun confirms the Edmonton Oilers have an interest in Ben Bishop, but the Ottawa Senators aren't ready to trade their current No.2 netminder yet.
Garrioch suggests the Senators may wait until the Vancouver Canucks first deal Roberto Luongo. At which point, the market for goaltending should swing in their favor.
The HockeyFanLand Insight:
This proves that the Edmonton Oilers brass is not sold on Devan Dubnyk carrying this team has number one goalie. Frankly, neither am I. Goaltending is the Edmonton Oilers trouble spot. However, is Ben Bishop really that much of an upgrade? He is a goalie with tremendous AHL accolades, but limited NHL experience. I would rather risk a blockbuster trade to get a household name. After all the goaltender is the most important asset on a hockey club....
Devan Dubnyk might still have it in him to be the man between the pipes; we will have to see how he responds after a big confidence boosting win against the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday night. If you still comes out flat against the Calgary Flames, tonight we know we still have an issue.
