Detroit Red Wings interested in Jay Bouwmeester

Is Jay Bouwmeester Michigan-bound?

According to the Calgary Herald, word has it the Detroit Red Wings have made a pitch for the Calgary Flames defenseman. Losing both Nicklas Lidstrom and Brad Stuart this offseason, the Red Wings have a gaping hole on the blue line and few decent free-agent options. GM Ken Holland has an excess of solid forwards to offer the Flames in exchange.

In my opinion, making Jay Bouwmeester a member of the Detroit Red Wings would be another feather in the cap of Ken Holland. I know many people consider Bouwmeester to be overpaid. However, he put up 29 points consistently in Calgary, where he was virtually by himself playing defense. With the Florida Panthers he was able to produce an average of 40 to 45 points with an aging defense partner in Bryan McCabe.  Now, just imagine what this dude could do on a skilled team like Detroit.... I'm thinking the former third overall selection from 2002 would be the perfect fit / replacement. great paring with Kronwall?
