Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins speaks onstage after winning the Art Ross Trophy during the 2012 NHL Awards.
The NHL Awards Show was broadcast on television Wednesday night from Las Vegas, where numerous NHL stars received awards for their performances this season. Unfortunately, there weren't any Caps that were even nominated for a trophy. Here is a breakdown of all the award winners:
Ted Lindsay (NHLPA's choice for most outstanding player): Evgeni Malkin (PIT)
Jack Adams (coach of the year): Ken Hitchcock (STL)
William M. Jennings (fewest goals allowed): Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliot (STL)
Art Ross (scoring leader): Evgeni Malkin (PIT)
Maurice "Rocket" Richard (most goals): Steven Stamkos (TBL)
Calder (rookie of the year) : Gabriel Landeskog (COL)
GM of the year: Doug Armstrong (STL)
Frank J. Selke (best defensive forward): Patrice Bergeron (BOS)
Bill Masterton (perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication): Max Pacioretty (MTL)
King Clancy Memorial (leadership): Daniel Alfredsson (OTT)
NHL Foundation Player (community work): Mike Fisher (NSH)
Mark Messier NHL Leadership (superior leader, on and off the ice): Shane Doan (PHX)
Lady Byng (sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct): Brian Campbell (FLA)
Vezina (best goaltender): Henrik Lundqvist (NYR)
Hart (MVP): Evgeni Malkin
While the NHL attempted to get as many declining celebrities as possible to make an appearance, actor Will Arnett was the only one who stood out that provided some laughs. Arnett's parody consisted of the actor playing the part of Brendan Shanahan, and handed out a "water suspension" to Dustin Brown for attempting to drink his water bottle upside down.
Other than that, the jokes and skits that the NHL Awards writers came up with was laughable. (not in a good way)
