New Jersey Devils must seize opportunity to eliminate Flyers

Posted by Landon Ewaniuk on May 8, 2012 at 1:55 PM

Heading into game 5 Tuesday night, the New Jersey Devils must seize the opportunity to eliminate the Philadelphia Flyers and move on to the Eastern Conference Finals. the Flyers will be without their superstar Claude Giroux, who is serving a one-game suspension for his hit to the head of Dainius Zubrus

Coach Peter DeBoer wants his team to have a killer instinct and finish the Flyers with their first opportunity.

"We want to end this as soon as we can," DeBoer said. "We know they're going to play their best game. I'm confident we're going to bring our best game. They're a dangerous team at any point in the series, and this one is always the toughest to win. I like how we're playing so we have to continue to do what we've been doing." NHL.com.

Many hockey experts right at the outset of these playoffs, labeled the New Jersey Devils as their "dark horse" pick at this moment in time I can see exactly why they did this, New Jersey is playing a great team game. Players who were expected to contribute at this time a year have: Ilya Kovalchuk leads the way with five points in three games. While, Dainius Zubrus, Travis Zajac, Zach Parise, and Marek Zidlicky are all playing at a point per-game pace in the four games.

The defense, which many people, view as a weakness on this current Devils team, have looked more like the vintage New Jersey style. The same could be said for Martin Brodeur, who looks to be on a mission to another Stanley Cup to his resume before retirement.

With all that being said. The Philadelphia Flyers will not back away. I agree with Coach Peter DeBoer the New Jersey Devils must seize the opportunity to eliminate the Philadelphia Flyers. it remains to be seen how the Philadelphia Flyers will react to the loss of Claude Giroux. the New Jersey Devils must play with the mindset that they have the best chance of winning today, and go out and take it.
