The Blues Are Rolling

Posted by James Lindsay on February 14, 2012 at 11:10 AM

When you are a diehard, never quit, love that hockey team, type of person, you get used to not winning if it has not happened in awhile.  Since the lockout the St. Louis Blues have made the playoffs ONCE.  They lost to the Vancouver Canucks in four straight.  Since one has to prepare mentally for such things, what do you do when your team actually meets the expectations that you have for them?  When they starting living up to the potential you thought obvious, but that did not show up on the win/loss record?   What do you do?  Its a good problem to have and I am glad it is here, but it still is unaccustomed territory.

The St. Louis Blues, as I type, own the best home record in hockey, 24-3-4.  They are 20 games above .500 for the first time since March 27, 2003 (that's the Pronger days).  Even better, when they get the lead, they keep it.  The Blues are 22-1-1 when they have the lead after two periods.

Wait, it gets better.  The Blues have the best goalie tandem in the NHL.  Jaroslav Halak and All-Star Brian Elliot have been tearing up the crease.  The opponents pucks do not know what the back of the net looks like.  Elliot pitched a shutout followed by Halak's shutout of the always tough San Jose Sharks on Sunday!  Team leader and veteran Cup winner Andy McDonald is back from a concussion and even had an assist against the Sharks.  These guys are doing great, wow, I don't know what to do!

This is exactly why we are great friends James. I love your passion for hockey, and your team the St. Louis Blues. I'm glad to see it is all coming together for you. I'll be the same way when it's the Edmonton Oilers day!

Thanks Landon, the Oil will have their day, if Jordan Eberle has anything to say about it.
