Shea Weber out with concussion

Posted by Landon Ewaniuk on December 27, 2011 at 1:40 PM

Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators is out indefinitely after suffering a concussion in Friday's game against the Stars, according to  to the Predators' official Twitter page.

Everybody on earth knows concussions have been the biggest problem facing the NHL over the past two seasons. Shea Weber is the latest in a long list of superstars to be on the shelf as a result of the head injury.

Josh Cooper of the Tennessean points out, the "Predators aren't as deep this year, and if Weber is out for a while, it could seriously damage Nashville's season". Under severe pressure to reach and enjoy some success in the postseason, the Preds may turn to the trade market to help partially plug the potential hole Weber's absence would create. Which could, in turn, affect Weber's future with the club.

Shea Weber was awarded $7.5 million in arbitration this off-season, weber is currently ranked fifth among defensemen in most fantasy hockey leagues. "It's a massive blow for the Predators, as Weber is a major defensive and offensive contributor. The perennial Norris Trophy candidate is fourth in the NHL in ice time at 26 minutes, 10 seconds per game and currently has eight goals and 21 assists." ESPN.com
