Report: Doan narrows list to three

Posted by Landon Ewaniuk on August 6, 2012 at 8:15 PM

Half the NHL would welcome Shane Doan if the unrestricted free agent left the Phoenix Coyotes due to their unsettled future in Arizona, but Doan has apparently narrowed his list of potential destinations to just three teams.

Doan will choose between the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks, writes New York Post scribe Larry Brooks, who goes as far as saying that "Doan is more likely than not to become a Blueshirt" if Rangers general manager Glen Sather offers him the four-year contract he desires.

And there's even a chance Doan take a three-year deal to play in the Big Apple, according to Brooks. If that's true, the Rangers could now be the favorites to land the 35-year-old forward.

The HockeyFanLand Insight

I believe the three teams on Shane Doan list would be considered the Stanley Cup favorites. As far as to say it, if he lands with one of these organizations I will put my hard-earned money on them winning it all.

Shane Doan is said to be an amazing person in the locker room. Those qualities have shown up in the way the Phoenix Coyotes were able to stay competitive on the ice despite the off-ice distractions.  I'm really interested in seeing how he performs in a place were all that matters is winning hockey games.

Regardless, of his new destination Doan should be on everybody's fantasy hockey watch list come draft night. In the end, this will be a happy hockey player posting career numbers.
