Nashville All-Star defenseman Shea Weber reportedly has agreed to a 14-year offer sheet worth at least $100 million with the Philadelphia Flyers.
"TSN's Darren Dreger reported the deal early Thursday morning via his Twitter account. He says Nashville was working on a trade and it's believed several deadlines passed before the Flyers grew tired of waiting and Weber -- a restricted free agent -- signed the offer sheet."
The Philadelphia Flyers have always been a franchise willing to make a splash. The Flyers were originally rumored to be a big hopeful in the Rick Nash sweepstakes. If the Flyers do indeed secure. Shea Weber It would be without a doubt the biggest storyline of the summer. in my opinion, Shea Weber is the best defenseman in the league right now. Weber is a sure bet to net between 40-50 points a season.
A three-time All-Star and the Predators' captain for the past two years, Weber scored 19 goals and had 49 points this past season while anchoring one of the NHL's top defensive teams.
The Nashville Predators have one week to decide if they want to match the offer. Nashville is a club that just recently lost the services of Ryan Suter. Losing Shea Weber in this fashion would drastically change the landscape of hockey in Nashville for the rest of time.
On the flipside, adding a piece like Shea Weber to the Philadelphia puzzle could mean a Stanley Cup in the near future. This was Smart play by the Philadelphia Flyers! However, if I were the Nashville Predators I would match no matter what the offer.
