There's a pretty strong belief Vancouver Canucks GM Mike Gillis wants to keep his coach, Alain Vigneault, but as Hockey Night in Canada's Elliotte Friedman reports, Gillis and Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini will meet today about the future of the franchise -- and if Aquilini wants Vigneault out, then there could be a problem. HNIC's Tim Wharnsby talked to people in the Canucks' front office, and they all support Vigneault -- so if he's canned, then it'll be because the owner wants him out.
I don't think Alain Vigneault is going anywhere! There are problems in Vancouver, but the head coach is not one.
One other possibility is, Vigneault asks to leave so he can coach in a less pressure filled marketplace. Rumor has it. That Vigneault finds the Vancouver media hard to deal with...
