Staal brothers together in Carolina?

Posted by Landon Ewaniuk on May 6, 2012 at 5:00 PM

The rumor mill is swirling that two Staal brothers could be playing NHL hockey together with the Carolina Hurricanes as soon as next season. Jordan Staal  is expected to be traded this summer, and one of the possible destinations is to play with brother Eric Staal in Carolina.

The Globe and Mail's Eric Duhatschek writes that this is more likely than Staal going to the Edmonton Oilers for the No. 1 pick, adding, "It was always my belief that this trade almost happened six years ago, or just before the 2006 entry draft, when Staal went second overall behind Erik Johnson (St. Louis Blues)."

I think it would be awesome to see what the Staal brothers could do playing together in Carolina. The Staal family has been a factory of fantastic hockey skill. So, what would it take to get a trade completed?

Sources say, The No. 8 overall pick, Justin Faulk and Brandon Sutter are some possibilities. Of course, a trade would be four more easier to do if the Pittsburgh Penguins knew Sidney Crosby was fully healthy.

I kind of think that neither Jordan Staal nor Roberto Luongo will be traded this summer. Still, Staal will command a hefty bounty on the open market. I figure Edmonton would make more sense - a higher pick and trading him out of the conference.
